Any Art Director will tell you that one of the consequences of doing the work that we do is that we become intimately aquainted with everything, and I mean everything, that Ikea stock - we even know the items by name so there is no need to describe the item that we require! Ikea is one of the only places that you can get most things you need off the shelf immediately and in large quantities for a reasonable price, up until 10pm - how oft the refrain "Thank God for Ikea" reverberates around the office.
I recently treated myself to some cups and saucers from Ikea - really I wanted one each of these but cannot justify the expense at the moment (new clutch an' all) so satified my need for lovely green and yellow cups at £2.53 each!! For cup AND saucer!! (they also do them in dinky espresso size) Anyway, I was watching the latest episode of 'Being Human' (for those of you who haven't come across it, it is a comedy/drama about a Ghost, a Werewolf and a Vampire living together in a house in Bristol) which I have been quite enjoying because (a) Mitchell the Vampire is, as my schoolfriends from the West Country would have said is "gurt lush" and (b) having grown up near Bristol I like to spot places that they have filmed in, much as most Glaswegians watch Taggart to spot places in Glasgow - lets be honest, why else would anyone watch it!
Anyway, I noticed that when Mitchell went back to the vampire lair in the undertakers to meet the chief vampire there, in the background on a table, was one of the bright yellow espresso cups! Nice choice Chief Vampire , if a little incongruous! I can imagine the scenario - bear in mind that this is a bare, dank basement in an undertakers:
1st AD - "Standby everybody. Rolling"
Cameraman - "Speed"
Director to Standby Art Director - " Don't you think that table looks a little bare? Have you got any dressing for it?"
Standby Art Director desperately rifles around in the prop van, heart pounding (remember the whole crew are primed and ready for a take) and comes up with.....tiny espresso cup and saucer!
Puts cup and saucer on table in background and....
1st Ad - "Action!"
This isn't a criticism - I have been in that situation many times myself - just an imagined scenario. It could just be that they felt that that little pinprick of colour amongst all that grey was a rather nice design statement!
Enough of cups and saucers and back to the crafting. I had a revelation regarding why I had a constant pain in my elbow - blunt cutting shears + 2 layers of tweed = RSI - I got some new shears. I have been merrily cutting out all manner of things with ease which are sitting in piles......
all round the workroom waiting to be sewn so no Fo's to show for now, just a load of piles. I also have several ziplock freezer bags containing almost finished crochet projects.....
which I am DETERMINED to finish this weekend so I can wear them before it starts getting warmer! Also I need some finished projects to post about as this is, supposedly, a craft blog!!!
The recipients of this months Sew Hip magazines are Diana and Bella Bheag - hope you enjoy!
I'm a winner - excellent! Since starting my sewing classes in January my appreciation for those wish sewing skills has increased enormously. I enjoy the learning, and I am trying, but I have a v long way to go! Thanks Suzanne! BBx

Should have said that I am looking forward to seeing what 'all manner of things' are created from your little piles of tweed. Hopefully one of the little cases I need that we discussed recently.x

What a lovely surprise to drop in, and find I'm a winner! Thanks Suzanne - I've not succumbed to buying Sew Hip, so will be good to get my nose into it at home. You look like you've been very busy!

Am intrigued(?) by the piece of yellow crochet and just wanted to say that the colour and texture is fab! As yet I appear to be the only person on the planet that cant master crochet(from a book). It is a touchy subject at the moment. Have a lovely day - jacqui
