I have been doing a little bit of crochet for myself as I recently acquired this book......
which is full of really beautiful projects. It is rare that I find a book that I want to make several of the projects but this book is great. At the moment I am working on this crocheted bag....
It is a bit of an experiment as I am not using the recommended yarn. The pattern uses cotton yarn but I am using this worsted weight wool from The Brown Sheep Company in the colourway 'Kiwi' ordered from Get Knitted (such a great shop). I am planning to felt it a little once I am finished to make it a bit more robust. It could be a disaster but that's part of the challenge. Also very challenging is the pattern! I struggled with it for ages as it didn't seem to work out. Eventually I worked out that if I did a row of double crochet between each bobble row it worked out OK. It was only later that I went back to Monicas' blog to look at the bag that she had made (it is where I first saw it and knew I had to make one for myself!) that I realised that there had been an error in the book and that I wasn't completely useless after all! Although my solution isn't the same as the pattern I am quite far on with it so cannot be arsed to rip it all out!
I have also been doing a little crochet for other people. I made this corsage for Caireen as part of her birthday present..........
it was made from a handspun yarn by Folktale Fibers in colourway 'Heirloom' - really love all the different colours of this yarn and it has a little bit of shiney in it too.
Most exciting though I have received something crocheted as a gift for my birthday! My friend MJ crocheted this crochet hook case for me - I absolutely love it!!
The case came wrapped in pink tissue tied with the bobble flower on a long length of yarn. I slip stitched the long tail and it is now doing a sterling job as a bookmark!
Two presents in one!
On the subject of crochet I have been marvelling at the amazing work of Suili I think you will agree that she is a crochet master!
You are a clever girl! I love the Kiwi colour.
See you Saturday

I am amazed (and a little envious) how proficient you've become in crochet in such a short time! You're amazing! Wish I could even get to my sewing room...boo hoo! x
