I met some friends for lunch on Saturday and we decided to take a walk around the neighbourhood in order to visit some of the local shops that normally we do not have time to visit. We are lucky to have an eclectic mix of shops nearby (Hampden Hardware being a favourite of mine!) one of which is called Tackle and Guns which, as you can tell by its name, sells everything you need for huntin'. shootin' and fishin'. It looks pretty unassuming from outside but open the door and inside is an Aladdins Cave, a veritable hive of activity. As I tiptoed in feeling like the proverbial "fish out of water" (excuse bad pun!) 5 or 6 keen anglers were standing around chewing the fat with their dogs in tow - retrievers and terriers of course....what a great vibe they had going - what a great shop! I love places that specialise in something that attracts the real anorak enthusiast - I especially like saddlery and hardware (don't judge me!) Did you know that there is a shop in Edinburgh that only sells brushes! A brush for every situation!
I was tempted inside by the sight of these.......
which of course I had to have as they would be the perfect embellishment for ........something I have yet to design and make! I love mixing textures and metal and tweed go so well together - I already use alot of these metal flies to decorate my wares.....
but I would love to find other insects/animals - any recommendations?
Finally a picture of some beautiful flowers.......
just because.
they are nice and will look great and appropriate against your tweed! flowers are beautiful and v. unusual - are they poppies?

My gosh, love these! (I love the flies, too). I think that's another sad effect of all of the big box stores that are the norm here--the loss of the small shop, *especially* the specialty shop. You just don't see that kind of thing here much anymore.

Love the animals with the tweed. Now, hardware shops do it for me, especially the real old fashioned sort. And I'd happily visit a brush shop! Love the 'Love-in-a-Mist' pic...I took some photos of the white variety last week. Must post them! X

Just wanted to say a BIG thank you. The Scottie you made for me arrived safely today, and he is gorgeous. I love the Harris Tweed label on his side and he is a lovely colour (blue tweed). You really must start an online shop, I can't rely on winning another competition to gain another Scottie! :)
