I returned to Glasgow with a bad case of Studio Envy! My friends Ness and Mark have spent the last few months converting a cold, damp, unusable annexe to their cottage into a dream studio for Ness in which to nurture her blossoming career as a playwright and local village Conservation Agitator! It is so cosy and peaceful I can see her creating some amazing stuff once fully installed. This is how it looked when I last visited in July......
the roof is in the garden! It has taken so long because, well these things always do don't they? Plus the cottage is listed and all building work has to be approved by the local council so you can imagine how long that could drag out!
And this is how it looks now.....
...with lovely views out into the garden.
Once the concrete floor has fully dried out an oak floor will go down - lovely! Good Luck Ness - we all expect great things from you now! No pressure!
Anyway it was the kick up the backside that I needed to get on and fully turn the spare bedroom into a proper home studio. I have been dragging my heels a bit but now it's full steam ahead.
This is how the room looked this morning - excuse the out of focus pics, it was very gloomy!
I started out thinking that it would be nice to have some Timorous Beasties wallpaper on the far wall but at £100 per roll (I would need 3!) I had to be pretty sure. After alot of thought I decided against wallpaper and have opted for patterned curtains.....
...and flat matt painted walls (quelle surprise!) in heritage colours from Craig & Rose (who, incidentally, provide the paint for the Forth Rail Bridge) inspired by the colours in the curtains...
I have plumped for Pale Cashmere (the creamy colour) on 3 walls and Rich Indulgence (dark greeny blue top left of pic) on the far wall with the door. I tried some by the fireplace and I think it really brings out the colour of the tiles.
The existing smoky blue does nothing for it! So expect nothing but dull out of focus pics of the studio refurbs' progress from now until it is finished!
I have already got the perfect thing to adorn the wall once it is decorated - I received the last 3 metres of the red check tweed from the mill on Friday and as it is the end of the roll it had this stamped on it....
..I am going to cut it out and frame it!
On a completely unrelated matter - all day I have been listening to Human Conditions by Richard Ashcroft - I don't know what it is about this album but I just love it. Every song is amazing. Do yourself a favour and go and buy it - NOW!
