Oh my God I ache! This decorating lark is not for the faint hearted I can tell you. At least the worst part, i.e painting the ceiling, is over. The ceilings in these old tenements are really high and I am not great with heights!
It took over two hours!! The neighbours were treated to me singing along a the top of my lungs to Richard Ashcrofts' Human Conditions and the whole of Keanes' Hopes and Fears. Well, if you have to spend 2 hours teetering at the top of a wobbly ladder with your arm in the air, there have to be some benefits. It could have been worse - last time that room was decorated I had just got the Outkast double album Speakerbox/The Love Below. With that in mind I think that they got off pretty lightly this time! But theres' always today - a bit of Prince might be in order and maybe a touch of Dolly Parton - always good to paint by.
This is a gratuitous picture of said wobbly ladder to illustrate just how high and scary it is!
Today I get to do the fun stuff like actually painting colour on the walls. I would usually paint everything white first (a tip from my scene painting days - it really makes the top colours sing out) but the walls are so pale and quite honestly I just cannot be ar**d! I just want it done so the rest of the house can stop looking like a tornado has swept through it.
Stay tuned for the next exciting installment - colour on the walls, eggshell on the woodwork!
arggh - it's Ikea bag syndrome! we're still living with that here...it is catching! Look forward to seeing your results and transformations! Xx
