The world went about it''s business on Friday completely unaware of the Herculean battle raging in my home studio. Well, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration - but you know how some days things just don't go the way you want them to? I had been given an order to make a T- cosy for someone and I only had enough of the fabric they wanted it in to make one - no mistakes! I had got that particular tweed on my very first visit to the mill and have not been able to get anymore since.
One of the first things I made way back in March when I first started crafting with Harris Tweed was a T- cosy. I made several attempts but could not get the finish right and so in a fit of frustration I abandoned several half finished cosies and got on with other projects. Every now and then I would catch sight of the hated pieces of cosy and feel ever so slightly irked. How could I be beaten by a simple T- cosy?
I wasn't aware of it but I have developed a huge mental block when it comes to the T- cosy! This became apparent when I started to make this latest one. What's the big deal? You may well ask!
I didn't want any raw edges inside and I didn't want the lining and wadding to sag - it has been a struggle to get the right technique - it's very fiddly and irritating having to turn the two sections in on each other and getting the wadding to stay put... I could go on but I am even boring myself. Anyway I think I have finally cracked it after two attempts with the previously abandoned pieces I finally made the one that I had been asked for in the lilac check. It only took several hours and a near nervous breakdown!
Here are the fruits of my labour.......
...can you see where my tears have stained the fabric? I don't think it helped that I was working to a deadline and had left it to the last possible moment and that I had only enough fabric for one attempt. Needless to say I will not be making any more cosys in the near future!
The irony is that a couple of weeks ago I had sent samples of the lilac check and red check tweed to the mill in Stornoway on the off chance that might be lucky and get some more - I wasn't hopeful. On Saturday I found a delivery note stuck under the mat at the front door notifying me that a parcel was waiting for me at my local Post Office. When I opened it this is what I found -
3 metres of each of my fave fabrics! It had been there since Thursday - doh!
Those tea cosies look gorgeous (as do the hottie covers in the last post), so glad you got there in the end! Love the scarves you're knitting too - they look wonderful, can't wait to see them felted, if you dare! Diana x
