I have been keeping all my newly acquired knitting yarn in the brown paper bags that it came in and it occurred to me that the perfect place to store it would be in my workbox in the living room.
I bought this from a charity shop several years ago and covered it with this tapestry that I did from a kit. I am a Leo so the Lion appealed to me. I liked it so much that I went on to do several more - all on a botanical theme.....
I love old drawings/prints of flowers and these made me think of the sort of thing around at the time of the Tudors and Stuarts, my favourite period of history. One of the reasons that I started doing the tapestry kits was that I am one of those people who feel guilty about sitting around 'doing nothing' and at the time I started doing these I had developed an obsession (yes another one!) with The Archers and would spend an hour every Sunday morning listening to the omnibus edition. Basically this collection of cushions represents many hours over many years of listening to The Archers! I embraced my inner old lady years ago!
I haven't looked inside this workbox for a long time and when I did I found a part finished tapestry..
.....among other things. I had forgotten that I had even started this!
I also found a few other bits and pieces - embroidered linen that I inherited from my Granny along with the following items..
An unopened Ehrmann tapestry kit....
...again on a botanical theme. It is called Herb Garden and is 19" wide x 14.5" high.
This length of fabric which I think I bought about 8 years ago to make a top...
It is a viscose or rayon or something - it has been in that workbox for years and still has hardly a crease! It is 120cms wide x 2 metres long.
Finally this piece of embroidered fabric which is a stretchy gauze type material and probably dates from around the 1950's/1960's. It is 90cms wide x 2 metres long. It is a little bit stained in places but could be salvaged...
I wasn't sure where this had come from until I noticed it hanging on a mirror in a one of the photographs ( also in the workbox) of a set from a short film I designed about 10 years ago!
I must have got it from a charity shop as set dressing and then not wanted to let it go as I knew it would probably get trashed.
All this stuff is taking up space in the workbox that I need for storing new projects that I am working on now. I have so many projects on the go that I know that I will never get around to doing the Herb Garden tapestry so I would like to 'move it on' and clear some space. I am a great believer in creating new energy by moving things on and clearing space for new things. Likewise the two fabrics need good homes to go to. If you are interested in one, two or all three of these items please leave a comment on this post by midnight GMT on Sunday 16th Dec. I will put the names of all interested parties into a bowl and choose a name at random. As these three items are all so different (someone inteested in the tapestry kit might not be interested in the length of fabric) I am going to do 3 separate draws, one for each item so please specify which draw/s you would like to go into.
Go on - you will be doing me a huge favour!
I've never done tapestry but it looks wonderful. I'd love to have a go at it. Especially now that I feel like I'm at least halfway done with my quilt and not likely to do more (one craft down!)
The fabric is too pretty but I'm having the same problem as you on that front--storage!

Your cushions and workbox look wonderful. I would like to go in the draw for the tapestry kit and the embroidered fabric.
