I made all my Xmas presents this year - in hindsight not a good idea with so little time! I was making things right up to the last minute and missed the post on Xmas eve (I know it wouldn't have got there in time anyway but at least it would have been on its' way!) due to the fact that I ran over someones puppy on the way to the Post Office. Before I go any further I must tell you that the story has a happy end but at the time it happened I felt wretched.
I was just approaching the brow of the hill near my home when a small black object came hurtling out of a garden on my left and under the car. At first I thought it could be a football or something - that is until I heard the terrible yelping. I ran back to find that it was a puppy and he had obviously got an injury to his leg but had stopped yelping and was looking quite pleased to see me and another lady who had stopped to help. She held the pup while I frantically buzzed all the doorbells on the surrounding tenements (no mean feat as there are 6 - 8 flats in each tenement) trying to find its' owner but no one seemed to know who he belonged to. By this point he had started shaking and I thought that maybe he had been more seriously injured than we thought so we bundled him into my car and I drove to the nearest vet surgery which luckily is just around the corner. The pup jumped into the front seat and sat looking expectantly out the window like he was looking forward to a nice car trip! I parked up and carried him over the road to the surgery - he was obviously very well cared for, he had a nice collar on but no details, was fat as a barrel and quite heavy! He was given a thorough examination and was found to be fine apart from a small cut on his leg and within a matter of a couple of minutes was causing havoc running around the surgery! He had been micro chipped and after a few calls the owners were tracked down in East Kilbride which is miles away from Glasgow. It's a mystery how he got to where I live - I never spoke to the owners - but at least they were reunited on Xmas eve! As my pal Elaine said "It was a good thing you ran him over. He might have been roaming the streets for ages if you hadn't" I know what she means but running over a puppy on Xmas eve (or at any other time) is no fun I can tell you!
Anyway this is a final post about what I made for xmas.
More of these....
and these.....
beautifully enhanced by Caireens recycled Xmas tags!
This was my favourite thing. My first felted hottie made out of one sleeve and the back of one of my old jumpers!
the finished object was very cute and I found the felt really easy to sew although my finger were getting really hot handling the felt!!
That pom pom maker has been worth every penny! I love it!
Apart from a 2 hour trip to the shops to get things for inside the mini-stockings I didn't get caught up in the Xmas madness at all! I did a swap with Caireen - she took some of my stuff as presents for her family and I got all my xmas cards and tags - a great swap! So not only did everyone get handmade pressies but handmade cards and tags - perfect! We are hoping to extend this next year so come on all you Creative Cafe bods, get making! And, of course, anyone out here in blogland who might be interested!
I'm glad the puppy story had a happy ending. What a way to spend Christmas Eve!

My heart would have stopped! I'm so glad it ended well. And my goodness am I tempted by those hot water bottle cosies! Mine nearly burns me--I knitted a cosy for it several years ago but it got a bit ratty. Tweed seems like an awesome alternative.
